| A small pub a few blocks away from the Monastery (Gum and 40th), this old tavern has been in business as long as anyone can remember. It is run single-handedly by a 96-year-old Korean man, Ju, ancient and barely 5 feet tall, yet quite active. He smiles perpetually over his varnished oak bar, always ready with a surprisingly sharp memory for your favorite drinks.
The bar itself is rather small, only a handful of tables, and showing its age in the countless watermarks covering every available surface. Despite the quiet respectibility of the tavern, some wild parties have been held there, with karaoke nights every few weeks and the occasional bubble party disturbing the silence of the old neighborhood. Any damage that may occur from night to night is repaired regularly by staff from the Monastery, who have unnofficially adopted the Abbot's Tavern as their home away from home.
An interesting feature of this tavern is its strict no-predation policy, obeyed unquestionably by it's faithful and transient customers alike, despite the unassuming nature of the barkeep. This by itself has made it unattractive to some prospective clientel, but the atmosphere and the parties keep most coming regularly, as well as the high quality of the drinks.
A small, old, comfortable and ocassionally rowdy place, Abbot's Tavern is a place often frequented and never forgotten.
