| | The light of the moon glares down on the thick cobblestone walls, causing unadorned, gloomy shadows to stretch out across the aged stone. The spiked shadows of portcullus loom like the twisted teeth of a fallen foe. A horse nickers from somewhere deep within the surrounding woods, the air acquiring the burning of an open fire, inviting and war.
A grinding, gravel road stretches up to the castle from the high iron gates. Rising from the weathered keep, like black ravens on an updraft, two towers stand stark against the moonlit sky giving the sense of power and antiquity. A large midnight blue flag sways in the wind upon the taller of the two towers, depicting an armoured knight with a raven his head and a Petrine Cross hung loosely about the bird's neck.
Through the heavy oak doors of the imposing keep rests a large stairwell leading to the upper levels. Iron suits stand guard in the great hall which smells of sealing wax and gold. Molton candles line the walls filling the space with an orange romantic glow. Long ribbons of dried wax cascade down into fluid points below each burning candle.
At the top of the stairs hangs a picture of Jacomo Varis, Master of the Shadow Manor. The tall vampire looks as if he is watching all those who enter. Below the painted portrait hang a detailed sketch of each of his beloved childer and sire. A banner of gold sewn into black silk frames the family with the Latin words, 'Quis separabit?
