Just beyond the lush tangles of jasmine and moonflowers that cover the entrance, an elegant sign is posted:
This is the home of NiFlhEiM and ophelia
Lokason. Once welcomed beyond the ancient
wards and onto the grounds, listen well, for
just as beauty surrounds, so does something
darker. Creatures roam beyond sight, intent on
protecting the Master and Mistress of their
lands.
If a one wishes to travel further, the way is illuminated by soft flashes of light. Fireflies...or are they? It is almost impossible to tell. The path is well worn, sheltered by a canopy of trees that dance in the wind. It grows cooler and one could be made to feel as though the very air is chasing damp fingers across skin. Here, the falls are the first to greet, flowing gently into crystalline pools of water, beckoning with untold promises of what lay beyond their depths.
Farther beyond, the air grows warmer at the approach the heated pools of water. Misty tendrils of steam drift across the ground, enveloping any inhabitants and filling the air with a hazy fog. Designed for warmth and comfort, there are places to recline, and simply relax, as well as a small cottage in the distance for less earthy comforts. Should one travel beyond the springs, they might encounter ice; drifts of snow and spears of frozen water that chill to the bone in a place that has a cold beauty not to be found anywhere else.
Continuing down the winding path, there is a clearing. Beyond the falls, beyond the hot springs and ice stands The Lokason Myrkrasetur.
It rises from the mists, stone clad walls with oak panels, windows stretching from top to bottom offering a view from within of the breathtaking beauty outside. Placed between four steamy pools, the Longhouse appears both humble and modern. A wooden dragon rests on top of the house, stretching from North to South. Its two heads raised to the sky, its claws stretching down the sides of the building in a protective embrace.
Double doors are nestled in an alcove at the south end of the building, intricate carvings that represent the World Tree etched into both. Above the alcove, almost hidden from view, runes of protection are engraved. A small bronze plaque hangs to the side of the entrance, the words delicately etched in an ancient language. It is, perhaps, a greeting for friends - or a warning for the unwelcome. |
